Abstract

Innovative, cutting-edge major building of complex Architecture and Engineering. The construction has integrated into its functional and modern design the façade of the old Arenas de Barcelona neo-Mudéjar bullring. The construction process was conditioned by the need to preserve the existing masonry façade. Once restored, the old façade has provided a unique iconic image for the new building.Another significant part of the building is the platform 100 meters in diameter (dish"), which covers the lower volume bounded by the old façade. It rests on four isolated, original "tree-like" supports and is closed off above with a wooden laminated dome. This paper outlines the most significant activities carried out during the construction of the foundations and structure of the building."
