Abstract

Due to the complicate mathematical procedure involved, thirty years ago many stresses were neglected when considered too small to be taken into account. At present, using computer calculations, actual values of these stresses can be obtained. This is the case of concrete T-beams whose flanges are submitted to transverse tensile stresses by the bending action of vertical loads applied on the web. After a first study where distributed loads were considered, further studies were carried out on the assumption of sinle loads acting on the beam. Using three graphics it is easy to appraise the distribution of tensile stresses at the flanges. Maximum value of these stresses is reach in the seccyion where the load is applied, but at the plane of flange-web connection.
