Abstract

In the last decades, there has been considerable development on the use of Self Compacting Concrete (SCC), especially in the precast industry. However, such development has not been uniform for all types of SCC applications. For instance, in the production of precast segmented lining for tunnels, there is very little experience in the cast process with the molds in horizontal position. The lack of information about this casting method may represent a limitation for the use of SCC. This paper presents an innovative experience in Spain regarding the production of precast segmented lining for tunnel with SCC and the molds in horizontal position. It also provides answers to many of the doubts involving such application, remarking its feasibility and advantages. Moreover, synergies were sought with the structural fibres in light of the wide variety of applications they may spawn.
