A composite structure combined with external presstressing: The new bridge over the Cavalls Valley in Valencia

Abstract

The new bridge over the Cavalls Valley, a spatial tubular composite structure with external prestressing, is described. The final typology of the deck was achieved after studying different possible alternatives. The result is an economical and easy-to-build structure which fits very well the requirements of the emplacement. An overview of the design process is given. Also, some of design aspects of external prestressing are discussed.
