Abstract

The use of steel structure shear heads to connect structural systems composed by steel columns and concrete flat slabs are a common construction practice since beginning of last century. Although there is a little knowledge and experimental data about the fact, concentrated mostly in two-way structural systems (RC flat or ribbed slabs), there are no so many references, regulations or concrete design codes which describe the phenomena for resisting frame structures usually associated with one-way flat slabs. In this technical paper, not only little references available will be reviewed, but also from a practical point of view, shear heads design for one way building flat slabs shall be proposed, considering also implications for the global structure perspective.
