New bridge over Paraguay River in Asunción
Abstract
The Republic of Paraguay wishes to build a new bridge over Paraguay River in the capital Asunción in order to open a new access to the city. To check the feasibility of the project, it was ordered a study of different alternatives that achieve the demanded technical requirements. In this study, carried out in several stages, different structural typologies were evaluated, as result of the analysis, two typological structural schemes may be considered as feasible: a concrete box girder built by balanced-cantilever method, or the cable-stayed bridge. Finally this last option was adopted.
