Maintenance and rehabilitation of stay cable systems: Technologies, typical defects, inspection, monitoring and repairs

Abstract

This article presents the most common technologies for stay cables systems, and the main defects that have been registered during the inspections carried out in the last few years. When the defects on stay cables are observed and their understanding improves, new methods for the inspection of the components of a stay cable are developed, as well as new solutions for their maintenance and upgrade. There are many publications on this issue, thus this article will mainly focus on the inspection and maintenance methods more recently developed and used on site.
