Abstract

This paper describes the normative frame developed in EC7, based on the method of partial factors, and explains the formal content that a National Annex must have, which makes reference, from a conceptual point of view, to two basic aspects:o Design Approach to be adopted in each geotechnical work.o Values of the partial factors that affect actions or effects of actions, geotechnical parameters and resistances. The respective decisions have been made with a view to attaining a safety level similar to the level applied in standard Spanish geotechnical practice. The geotechnical works analyzed in the National Annex, through the determination of the partial factors, are: shallow and pile foundations, retaining structures, anchorages, and overall stability and stability of slopes and embankments.
