Seismic retrofit of Ribeira dos Limos masonry arch bridge

Abstract

This paper describes the main features of the Ribeira dos Limos Bridge seismic retrofit project. The masonry arch bridge is located in a high seismic region. Seismic retrofit has been designed using a push-over analysis in order to determine an equilibrium point between the seismic demand and the expected structural behavior. This analysis, quite common in new projects, has been seldom used in a masonry structure retrofitproject.
