Almonte Arch. La Plata dual carriageway. Hinojal-Cáceres stretch

Abstract

This article describes the type and construction process involved in the Bridge over the River Almonte, on the Hinojal ? Cáceres Stretch of La Plata N-630 dual carriageway joining Gijón and Seville, whose construction concluded in 2005. The arches were built by combining the cantilever method with a powerful rigid rolled steel section triangulation which allowed for the tensioning of conventional rolled sections. The deck was built using scaffolding trusses from both ends and everything was real time monitored by efficient instrumentation that made use of state-of-the-art technology.
