Simplified calculation of the splitting-tensile strength of concrete using the strut-and-tie method

Abstract

The study of the Brazilian splitting test for the determination of the tensile strength of concrete has been widely treated in the literature, from both experimental and numerical points of view. The purpose of the present paper is to analyse the problem through the strut-and-tie method, leading to a proposal for a reasonable approximation of the results from other approaches.
